TWO WORKSHOPS by  Lana:
1. Stage Presence & Shimmies with Lana
Rachel Brice called her Shimmies "crazy."
Princess Madiha, bellydance pioneer, said "No one can shimmy like you."
How do you enter a room as a dancer with mystique? How do you exit the stage with
power? How do you captivate an audience? What makes a dancer stand out?
There's secrets with the eyes, hips, belly, head & hands that professional dancers use
to captivate an audience. Lana will share the performance secrets that audiences love
most: whether your audience is one person in your family; a wedding show or a whole
theater of strangers!
Also this workshop unlocks the mystery for your true hip shimmy potential-for triple
layering hip movement that even advanced students will want! Hips, ribs, belly, arms -
come bellydance in a fun, giving atmosphere!

2. Flutters, the business of bellydance & improvisaton with Lana
Yes, three things in one!
First, You don't need a choreograph! Let's explore  the art of improv - the true form of
bellydance - to dance to any music right on the spot!  Lana, who performs improv
regularly with live musicians, teaches you how! If you already understand, come learn
some new improv combos! All levels will love it.
Secondly, learn how to flutter your stomach and move your hips & chest at the same
time! And if you don't know how to flutter your stomach, you will after this workshop!
Last, the doors open to something no one discusses! The business of being a pro
dancer. Discuss how to land jobs here & overseas, market yourself, deal with the
competition, work with a band, dance in nightclubs, the differences between traditional
Arabic & non-Arabic wedding shows, and of course how much a dancer earns....this
is for all levels new and experienced, because it's such an interesting topic!

Stage Makeup with Najla Bell

Check Up From the Neck Up….
Hair, Makeup and Attitude for
Dynamic Stage Presence.

Stepping out onto the performance
stage takes a lot of guts. You have
worked hard on your dance, so
you are ready. Or are you?  Will
you shine, or blend in with the
backdrop? Najla teach you how to
prepare three key elements that will
make the difference between
shining and blending.
You can have it all, including the
standing ovation!  Take a bow, YOU
ARE A STAR!

She took an interest in belly dance
in 2000.  Her upcoming marriage
inspired her to do something at their
Jack & Jill to shock and embarrass
her future husband.  She secretly
studied the basics of bellydance
from a video and made a costume
without her fiancé knowing.  It is
safe to say, he was sufficiently
shocked and mildly embarrassed,
but definitely speechless.

And finally, the world LEGEND, the
PIONEER: AIDA

seven nights a week at
numerous venues.
She also performed at the Cairo
Meridien Hotel in Egypt in April
2000 and the Orient House in
Istanbul, Turkey in April 1998.
She is currently featured on four
DVDs and two CDs.

She has studied with numerous
oriental dance teachers including
Yousry Sharif, Nourhan Sharif,
Raqia Hassan, Farida Fahmy,
Aida Nour and Momo Kadous.
Azziza has performed many
celebrities including Cameron
Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, P Diddy, J
Lo, Peter Berg, Carson Daly,
Hakim and Shadi Jamil.
Spins & Floorwork with Aida!
Drop to the floor techniques: Turkish,
Macedonian, Flamenco. And...floor work
technique for pros. Want to slither on the floor
like a snake? Do you like the idea of floorwork
but are intimidated by its power?
There's no one better to teach class than Aida -
the master of floorwork.

It's because of performers such as Aida that we enjoy
bellydance as we know it today.

Aida studied under the mother of our dance, Jamila
Salimpour in Northern California and was her Protégé
for many years. Jamlia gave bellydance steps their
actual names as we know them and was the first one
to actually break down its technique.

Since 1971 Aida has made her living dancing &
teaching. She's toured the U.S. Canada with Holiday in
Greece and South America with internationally known
Rana & Naim.
She worked in San Francisco for 12
years at the Baghdad & Casbah Nightclubs doing 45
minute shows three times a night, 5 to 7 nights a week.

Holding a degree in Opera & being a
symphony Bassoonist for many years gave her the drive
to study the Oud, Mizmar, Riqq and Derbecki as well as
the Arabic Language at UC Berkeley.

With much study & practice, in time she played & sang
with the musicians on stage in-between her shows.
The other two nights she performed at the Greek
Taverna and El Morocco Restaurant.

When Saudi Arabian Students came to the US in the
70's we were the first to learn their music and perform
the Khaliegi style of dance in the clubs and Aida was
the first dancer in the U.S. to wear a "Thobe Nashel" on
stage.

Detroit Raqs convention co-host Lana, calls Aida "The
best dancer in the world.
In-the-world.
Period."
